A note from Don
Olson on our Owner Operator Position:
Fortune Transportation
historically has had 75% company trucks and 25% Owner
Operators. When I first started the company I did not
have the money to finance other people, I was working on
financing Fortune and getting it going, so I paid my owner
operators a percentage and they did not get paid until I got
paid. They did and still do make more money then the
average owner operator on the road: but they are worth it!
Former company drivers own
two-thirds of our present owner operator trucks. We have not
advertised for owner operators except by word of mouth for a
long while.
This past year was an interesting
year. High fuel cost, increasing health care and liability
insurance costs, and higher equipment costs combined with a
very competitive rate environment. This said we are looking
for true owner
operators. What we mean is we want people who run their
trucks like a business. We want operators who work to control
their costs, operators who want to improve profitability, and
operators who can balance these difficult business decisions
and still want a life outside of the truck.
Fortune will work with you if you
have what it takes. We are in this business for the long
haul; specifically we see opportunity for all of us to create
a solid base of equity in the next couple years.
