History
In 1980, change came to the
trucking industry; rules and regulations were changing and a
new way of doing business, de-regulation, allowed opportunity
to come to entrepreneurial individuals and companies.
No longer were work opportunities
“protected” by government rules; simply stated, if you could
produce a better transportation product, if you had ideas of
how things could be better, and could sell someone on that
idea, the customer was able to hire you to do that.
Fortune was a “child-business” of
that era. Started in 1980 with one truck, we were able to do
things differently for some of our early customers and grow
with them. We hauled more loads annually for Land O Lakes in
the 1990’s than any other carrier; many competitors had ten
times more trucks, but Fortune excelled by redesigning their
regional and intra state hauling routes to provide greater
efficiency than they thought possible.
We started hauling for Schwans
Sales when they had just their own fleet and one outside
“for-hire” trucking company. As Schwans expanded and opened
new sales territories, Fortune found a profitable price
structure and was able to profit in those new growth areas,
often where their other carriers did not want to go. Fortune’s
growth was proportional to the growth of Schwan’s.
We worked with a growing specialty
fruit sales business, doing all inbound and outbound movements
in a couple annual targeted sales and marketing campaigns.
Growing as they grew, expanding into new territories as their
business changed, providing and developing the transportation
systems needed to accomplish their business model.
Today we are working with a large
customer to provide greater flexibility, be better prepared to
deal with daily production change, and cut overhead costs with
a loading process at one of their major plants.
We have been fortunate to work for
companies that were growing, changing, or just needed outside
expertise, needed positive results fast, and gave us the
latitude to help them meet their goals.
Today we integrate the same basic
business thought process into our work areas. We participate
and use technology to provide benefits for our employees,
customers, and provide a better work-place atmosphere for all
involved. From increasing fuel efficiencies of our equipment,
satellite tracking for driver safety and increased data
communication between company, customer and driver, our faster
communication abilities are to better respond to the market
place, and keep Fortune a company of tomorrow.
Do what works for our customers,
change and modify to provide best in class service, and do so
in a profitable and professional manner.
